History of the College

GDC Dhone

Gundam Venkat Rathnam Shetty Government Degree College was established in 1979 in Dhone, Kurnool district. It is a co-education college established with the support of the local philanthropist, Gunda Venkat Rathnam Shetty who donated six acres of land and rupees one lakh. Since then, the college is persistently engaged in promoting graduation education to rural and urban students in and around Dhone after completing the intermediate. The college has completed 44 years of the journey during which it has crossed significant milestones.

The college located in a lush green and serene atmosphere has the required infrastructure which includes classrooms, digital classrooms, virtual classrooms, a seminar hall, a library, laboratories for the science departments, and also a computer lab. The college also has a playground and a well-equipped gym. The significant contribution from the alumni and philanthropists to the development of the college is worth mentioning and the college remains grateful for their relentless efforts.

From 1979 to 1989, the college was affiliated with Sri Venkateshwara University, Tirupati, and from 1990 to 2008 it was affiliated with Sri Krishna Devaraya University, Ananthapur. In the year 2008, it got affiliated with Rayalaseema University, Kurnool.

The college offers conventional and restructured undergraduate courses in multiple disciplines like Arts, Science, Commerce, and Computer Science. It offers conventional courses like BA, B. Com, and B.Sc. MPC and BZC and restructured courses like B. Com Computer Applications and B.Sc. MPCs.

NCC unit is sanctioned to the college in the year 2022.

The college is progressing to achieve academic excellence with the support and efforts of the staff over the years.
